Skate Xmas Review & Gameplay Guide

I just spent the last few hours playing Skate Xmas and I've got to say, it's been a real mixed bag for me. I've always been a fan of the Skate series, and the idea of a Christmas-themed version sounded like a fun twist, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. The gameplay is still as solid as you'd expect from a Skate game - the controls are tight, the levels are well-designed, and the trick system is still super satisfying. But at the same time, it feels like the developers didn't really do much to take advantage of the Christmas theme.

I mean, apart from the festive decorations and the snow-covered streets, it's basically just the same old Skate game I've been playing for years. Don't get me wrong, that's not necessarily a bad thing - the Skate formula is a winning one, and it's still a blast to play. But when you're selling a game as a Christmas-themed version, I expect to see a bit more effort put into making it feel like a unique experience. Instead, it just feels like they took the basic Skate game and slapped some Christmas stuff on top of it. It's a bit disappointing, to be honest.

One thing that did stand out to me, though, was the new "Sleigh the Competition" mode. It's basically a series of challenges where you have to complete tricks and combos while being pulled along by Santa's sleigh, and it's actually really cool. The sense of speed and urgency adds a whole new layer of excitement to the game, and it's a great way to mix things up from the usual free skate mode. I found myself getting really into it, trying to beat my high scores and unlock new rewards. It's definitely the highlight of the game for me.

But even with the new mode, I couldn't shake the feeling that Skate Xmas is just a bit of a cash-grab. I mean, the game is basically just a rehash of the same old Skate game with some Christmas decorations thrown in, and it feels like they're trying to make a quick buck off of people who are looking for a fun holiday game. It's not like they're really trying to create a unique or innovative experience - they're just relying on the fact that people will buy it because it's a Skate game with Christmas stuff in it. And you know what? It's probably going to work. People are going to buy it, and they're going to play it, and they're going to have fun. But it still feels like a bit of a rip-off to me.

Despite all my complaints, though, I have to admit that I still had a pretty good time playing Skate Xmas. The game is still fun, and the new mode is a great addition. If you're a fan of the Skate series, you'll probably enjoy it, and if you're looking for a fun holiday game, it's not a bad choice. Just don't expect it to be a totally new or innovative experience - it's basically just more of the same old Skate, with a Christmas twist. And who knows, maybe that's all you're looking for. Maybe you just want to play some Skate, and you don't care about the Christmas theme. If that's the case, then go for it - you'll probably have a blast.

Overall, I'd say that Skate Xmas is a solid but unremarkable game. It's not going to win any awards for originality or innovation, but it's still a fun way to pass the time. If you're a die-hard Skate fan, you'll probably want to check it out, and if you're looking for a fun holiday game, it's not a bad choice. Just don't expect too much, and you'll be fine. And who knows, maybe next year they'll come out with a new version that actually feels like a unique and innovative experience. A guy can dream, right?
