Niche Shift Review & Gameplay Guide
I just finished playing Niche Shift and I've got to say, it's been a wild ride. I picked it up on a whim after seeing a friend stream it, and at first, I was a bit skeptical. The game's art style is definitely unique - it's got this weird, dreamlike quality to it that's kind of hard to describe. But as I started playing, I found myself getting more and more drawn in. The gameplay is all about shifting between different perspectives and realities, and it's really trippy.
One thing that really stands out about Niche Shift is its sense of atmosphere. The game's world is just so... alien, in a good way. It's like nothing I've ever seen before, and it's really immersive. The sound design is also top-notch - the music and sound effects are all really eerie and unsettling, which adds to the overall sense of unease. I found myself feeling really anxious and on-edge at times, which I think is a testament to how well the game's atmosphere is done.
But as much as I love the atmosphere, the gameplay is where Niche Shift really shines. The shifting mechanic is so cool - it's like you're constantly flipping between different versions of reality, and it's really disorienting in a good way. It takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's really intuitive. The puzzles are also really clever - they're not too hard, but they're not too easy either. I found myself feeling really satisfied when I finally figured out a tricky one.
One thing that did frustrate me a bit was the lack of direction. Sometimes I felt like I was just wandering around without any real sense of what I was supposed to be doing. The game doesn't really hold your hand, which I appreciate, but at the same time, it would have been nice to have a bit more guidance. I found myself looking up walkthroughs a few times, which I don't usually do. But overall, I think the sense of discovery is a big part of what makes Niche Shift so fun, so it's a trade-off I'm willing to make.
As I played through Niche Shift, I found myself thinking about it even when I wasn't playing. It's one of those games that really gets under your skin, you know? It's like it's crawling around in your brain, making you think about all the weird and wonderful things it's showing you. And the ending - oh man, the ending is just incredible. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but let's just say it's really thought-provoking. I'm still thinking about it now, days after I finished the game.
All in all, I'd definitely recommend Niche Shift to anyone who's looking for something a bit different. It's not for everyone, I'll admit - it's definitely a bit out there. But if you're in the mood for something that's going to challenge your brain and make you feel all weird and uneasy, then Niche Shift is the game for you. Just be prepared to think about it for a long time after you're done playing - it's one of those games that's going to stick with you for a while.
